BIBLE WINDOW 1.2
Copyright (c) 1991 Robert S. Smith
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Bible Window is designed to keep a refreshing inspiration from the
Bible just a mouse click away. It displays one of 366 carefully chosen
Bible verses and challenges the user with one of 600 thought-provoking
Bible questions. It comes with a screen saver which displays random
Bible verses. It includes Speedy-Q, a game which allows 1 to 10 players to
use their Bible knowledge to compete against the clock!
INSTALLING BIBLE WINDOW
First, make a backup copy of the diskette and file for safekeeping.
Then, use original diskette for installation as follows:
A batch file has been supplied for the installation of Bible Window.
Put the Bible Window disk in the A or B drive, and at the DOS prompt enter
"A:" or "B:" respectively to make that drive the default drive. (Do not
enter " in these DOS commands.) Then type "install" and press the <enter>
key. The batch file will do these things:
make a directory called c:\biblewin
Run bwzip.exe to self-extract files.
copy a file to your c:\windows directory.
Then see Running Bible Window below.
You can also install the program yourself in the directory of your
choice. Follow these steps:
1) Select a directory, or make a new one.
Example: enter "md c:\bibgame"
2) Copy the bwzip.exe file to this directory.
3) Change to this directory.
Ex. enter "cd c:\bibgame"
4) Run the bwzip.exe program to unzip files.
Ex. enter "bwzip"
4) Copy the vbrun100.dll file to your Windows subdirectory.
Ex. enter "copy vbrun100.dll c:\windows"
After succesful copying, the vbrun100.dll file may be erased from
the original subdirectory.
(Remember not to type in the "")
RUNNING BIBLE WINDOW
1) Select File then Run from the Program Manager menu. In the box type
c:\biblewin\bw and hit <enter>. This assumes that you have installed
Bible Window in the c:\biblewin directory. Otherwise substitute the
appropriate path name.
OR
2) Use the File Manager to highlight the bw.exe file in the appropriate
directory and then double click.
Advanced users:
modify the win.ini file to run or load Bible Window.
Example:
load=c:\biblewin\bw.exe
You might especially want to load the saver program from the win.ini file.
**** DON'T RUN BW FROM THE DOS COMMAND LINE *********
For some reason, Windows doesn't keep track of directories properly for
programs started from the command line (entering "win c:\biblewin\bw" at the
c:\ prompt, for example).
SPEEDY-Q
Bible Window 1.2 includes a "Speedy Quiz" program to challenge
from 1 to 10 players. The challenge is to see how many Bible questions you
can answer in a limited time period (user selectable from 20 to 60 seconds).
One way to run this program is to use File Run from the Program manager and
type c:\biblewin\sq and hit <enter>.
REGISTERING
If you find this program useful, registration is suggested. Information may
be found in the read_me menu choice in the Bible Window program. Registration
choices include versions of the Online Bible, a fast and feature-laden Bible
search program.
You may also use the form supplied named "register.frm". You may find this
file in your c:\biblewin directory after you run the install.bat file. You
may copy this form to your printer with the "copy c:\biblewin\register.frm
lpt1" at the DOS prompt.
SCREEN SAVER
If your monitor displays the same picture for a long time, the screen can get
burned out. If you plan to leave your computer idle for a while, use the
saver program (named saver.exe). You can run this program from the
File Manager or the Program manager. However, the best way to run this
program is to load it from the win.ini file, if you know how to modify that.
Simply add an item to the line that says "load =" and then type the directory
and file name.
Example: "load = c:\biblewin\saver". Do not type in "" marks. The Saver
program displays random Bible passages in various locations. The screen
saver will not run automatically from other programs, but it can be run
manually with only a few mouse clicks. This way it won't upset the running
of other programs.
To exit the screen saver, hit the escape (ESC) key while the program is
fully displayed (maximized) on the screen. Then click the OK on the message
box.
CHRISTIAN COMPUTING
Occasionally people ask me about other Christian programs that are available.
A good source of information is Christian Computing Magazine. You may
save 10% on a subscription to this magazine when you mention my dealer number,
0161. You may get 1 year for $13.45 (normally $14.95) or 2 years for $22.45
(normally $24.95). This magazine includes reviews of Bible search programs,
Bible study programs, church administration programs, and general computing
information. Foreign subscriptions are more expensive. (Surface $28.00,
air $47.00 for one year. Sorry, but no discount available on foreign subs.)
Price subject to change in the future, but 10% offer should still be good.
Make check out to and send to (Visa or MC also accepted):
